Curves Around The World: GRUNGE

Good Evening my Fabulous Friends!!!

Its been a very long time since I last posted this is due to travelling I embarked on during this festive season and coming back to work. I think I have settled in not to miss any posts as this post is overdue and I apologise for the lack of consistency.

This posts theme is GRUNGE and if you were born before OR during 80s you will remember this kind of style as we wore many flannel shirts and doctor marten boots to spice up this look.

Many confuse punk with grunge forgetting that “Punk was antifashion,” and therefore was there to make a statement. Grunge was not about making a statement, which is why it’s crazy for it to have become a fashion statement. I am glad it did though, lol :)

The year fashion co-opted grunge in 1993 - Jean Paul Gaultier told Vogue  - grunge is nothing more than the way we dress when we have no money and that grunge has grown from the raw, messy scene surrounding the raw, messy sound—produced by a bedraggled pack of flannel-clad Pacific Northwest dropouts—that was suddenly the talk of the fashion establishment.

In my higher primary an high school GRUNGE was my staple fashion style and when looking around these days grunge is more polished up than before and that's the route I took for my outfit tonight. I think id call it Modernised Grunge or Grunge Chic ok, what ever relevant name you can give it. I am sure you get what I am trying to say here.

Now that you are probably in your 30s would you probably try this childhood fashion??? I like playing with my clothes and exploring styles and I think I can get used to this style on daily basis - pity I work in a serious environment :(

Whats your view on GRUNGE???

Mod meets Gingham

Good Evening Friends!!!

Hope your Wednesday was alright wherever you are, mine was cold and busy!

When posting my sweatpants pictures this morning I noticed I have about 5 outfit that I still need to post from my red braids hairstyle. So, throughout this week I will ensure I post them everyday. So we can focus on outfits with my current hairstyle. This is the first of them!

It is what I say MOD meets GINGHAM - what other caption can one come up with??? This is one of those special outfits where I mix thrifted items with contemporary pieces and just get an updated vintage outfit. Love it!!!

Curves Around the World: 1Dress = 3Styles

Hey, guys!!!

Curves Around the World post has arrived. This week the challenge  is to come up with 3 looks from one dress. This has been an exciting challenge for me cause I love dresses.

I recently bought a Maxi dress and I decided to use it for this challenge. It is summer already here in South Africa but we still get some cooler days regardless. For the past week we have had a volatile weather which allowed me to style this dress as I pleased. I managed to pair it with Converse studded hitop sneaks, Wedged Heels and flat sandals for a weekend feel. Styling for all three has been easy and fun to do with more than satisfactory results.

I love all three styles and already see that this dress is gonna be a go to for this summer. Reason being, it is a most versatile piece in my wardrobe currentl and I have hardly fallen for it, I love the color, print and feel against my skin. Its one of those things that make one appreciate owning. Happy feeling :)

Do you have a dress in your closet that you cant leave behind if you were to travel? What is it? A maxi, bodycon, skater etc.??? I love all kinds as long as they are dresses, lol :) Have you tried doing the same challenge? What were the outcomes?

Enjoy!!!

OOTD: Nautical Sunday

Hello my Fab Sista's

Last Sunday I came across Palesa's Outfit on Instagram and instantly fell inlove. I instantly challenged myself to replicate her look. I even left a comment on her IG that I'll give it a go.

On Monday when going to work the weather was cold and raining so I managed to replicate this outfit as I was eager to try it out but could only take pictures inside my office. At the end of the day, I was unsatisfied with the quality of my pictures and the dress I wore was a bit longer - my goal was really not achieved on this day.

I told myself I am not resting until I get this challenge right. Today, I think I got it right even though I am not wearing big blocked striped dress same as hers - for me: this is MISSION ACCOMPLISHED kinda moment :)

The message I am trying to relay on this post is that all of us need to be inspired by each other, NO MATTER THE SIZE. Plus Size ladies need to stop being negative and bitter when seeing a normally sized individual killing it on the streets instead lets be inspired to try things out and see how far we can go challenging ourselves to getting closer to the outfit of inspiration.

The truth is that we can never look the same as the people who inspire us but can look better FOR US because the challenge is for us, by us and about us #nopressurePLEASE :) We are all beautiful!!!

Palesa looks amazing on this nautically inspired outfit and OFCOZ, so is myself :) I feel satisfied with what I did for this challenge. I got inspired and I brought in my own flavour :)

What do you think???

PALESA MAHLABA: True Love Magazine Fashion Editor - I love this woman so much and her fashion style is on another level. Check her out on her Instagram Account to see what she is all about. Click here.
